Avoid After Getting a Tattoo

Everyone likes to get a new tattoo on their body parts but there are some things you need to avoid after getting a tattoo.Like, In today’s generation, tattoos are getting much trendier. For most people, it is not just a symbol of style or a way to showcase just the tattoo. Some tattoos have deep meanings among themselves and may differ from person to person. There are many young people who want to get inked, but they do not know some of the basics of what to avoid after getting their tattoos done.

In this article, we are going to mostly talk about some of the basic things that you need to keep in mind for a few weeks (2–3 weeks) after getting your tattoo:

Not taking care of the Tattoo:

After you get a tattoo, if you are not properly taking care of the tattoo then it might result in discoloration, colors dropping out, and tattoo infection. So, you have to take proper care of the tattoo after it is done for a few weeks.

Avoid Direct Sunlight:

After getting a tattoo freshly done, you need to avoid going into direct sunlight because it can harm your skin and it may take more time to heal. If you are working in a field and it is not possible to avoid sunlight, you can use sunscreen on the tattoo and keep applying it throughout the day. This will protect your tattoo to some extent.

Avoid Touching or Scratching the Tattoo:

Many people will try to touch the tattoo after getting it done, but you do not have to touch the tattoo at all. And after a week, the tattoo will start peeling off some dry skin, which will cause an itching sensation. Do not scratch the tattoo; it will only increase your healing time. To avoid this, you can do one thing that can help you relax: take a clean towel, dip it in water, and gently apply it on the tattoo. This process will gently reduce your itching to some extent.

Avoid going for a swim:

If you are a swimmer, getting a tattoo will be much more hectic for you because, after getting it done, you have to protect it from the water as well. You can gently clean your tattoo with a little water after cleaning your hands with antibacterial soap. However, you should avoid completely immersing the tattoo in swimming pools or water parks because they contain chemicals such as chlorine, which will only harm your tattoo. Not only should you avoid swimming pools, but also beaches and lakes, because they contain salt and bacteria that can cause infection in the injured area.

Do not wear slim jeans or T-shirts:

You need to understand that after getting a tattoo, you must let it breathe. If you wear tight clothes, they will touch the tattoo, which will result in sweating and rubbing. And you might not get the result you were waiting for. If you are staying in a warm area, you can wear loose clothes that let the airflow through the area. And if you are staying in a cold area, you can wear cotton clothes, which help the tattoo breathe freely.

Do not let your skin get dirty:

On the tattoo area, you mustn’t let it get dirty because the dirt might contain some bacteria, which results in some sort of infection on the skin. So, you have to properly take care of the skin by cleaning the tattoo with soap and water, gently cleaning the tattoo with a clean towel, and applying moisturizer to the skin regularly.

Do not Exercise Intensely:

If you are a gym freak and cannot live without lifting weights, then after getting a tattoo you need to change your workout plan for a few weeks. Because lifting weights can stretch your tattoo, which might result in the tattoo getting faded.

Avoid steam baths and saunas:

You should avoid using a sauna or a steam bath due to bacteria. In those places, you have to keep your body exposed, and you will sweat a lot. So, there is a high chance that you could get some bacteria on the tattoo, which will lead to an infection of the wound.

Avoid Shaving the Area:

If you have gotten a new tattoo on the area where you shave frequently, you have to avoid shaving that area for a few weeks. After your tattoo is completely healed, you can shave the area, but not before that, because it will only increase your healing time and you might get irritated by that.

Sweating:

I know you personally cannot do much if you sweat a lot. But you can control your daily activities, which leads to sweating more (like intensive exercise, going out in the sun, working vigorously). Sweating is not so good for the 1st week after getting inked it will interrupt the healing of your tattoo.

So, these are some of the basic things you must keep in mind to avoid after getting your tattoo done. If your tattoo healing process is taking more time than usual, like more than 3 weeks, you do not have to panic because in some cases, the healing time can increase up to 6 weeks. If you get any redness, itching or you feel something is not right near your tattoo area, then you must call your tattoo artist and explain everything to him. He will suggest what to do in the situation.
